PARTNERSHIP OF WOMEN OPENS GRANT CYCLE

Deadline for Preliminary Proposal Questionnaire’s Due July 8 for Single $12,000 Grant and Two $2,500 Awards

June 10, 2014 (Henderson, Ky.) – Partnership of Women, known as POW! (pronounced like WOW), has completed its annual membership fundraising drive and launched their grant cycle starting tomorrow, June 11. This is the second year for POW!

One successful Henderson organization will be awarded a single grant of $12,000 and two runner ups will be issued grants of $2,500 each on November 18.

The first step in the grant cycle begins with a preliminary proposal questionnaire which is available on the website www.POWFund.org or by request starting tomorrow, Wednesday, June 11. Deadline for the preliminary proposal is Tuesday, July 8, at 5 p.m.

Only organizations in Henderson County, Kentucky, that serve residents of Henderson County are eligible to apply. This includes 501(c)(3) non-profits as well as governmental agencies including educators with school-based projects and other programs in Henderson County that have a 501(c)(3) non-profit designation fiscal sponsor.

Non-profit project areas that will be eligible for funding are as follows:

  • Community Development: Activities that benefit residents within all segments of the population
  • Education: Activities that promote or strengthen the educational attainment, both in and out of the classroom in Henderson
  • Health: Activities that improve the health outcomes for Henderson residents
  • Human Services: Activities that support public protection, employment/jobs, food and nutrition, agriculture, housing and shelter, public safety, disaster preparedness, and relief
  • Capital Projects: Small capital projects that will be completed within two years from the date of the grant award

The application process begins with completion of the preliminary proposal questionnaire which can be downloaded at www.PowFund.org. The preliminary proposal questionnaire helps in determining whether a funding request qualifies for consideration before the applicant invests time and effort in completing a full grant proposal.

After review of preliminary proposals questionnaires, selected applicants will receive a formal invitation to submit a full grant proposal which must be submitted by September 6.

POW! successfully raised $30,000 in memberships in the 2013/2014 recruitment cycle and $7,000 in sponsorships. These gifts will enable the organization to grant $17,000 on November 18th at the Second Annual POW! Dinner. POW! granted $15,000 last year with the Brain Injury Adventure Camp receiving $10,000 to complete a multi-use building on its property. Over $13,000 was endowed in 2013 and POW! will endow an additional $15,000 in 2014 creating an endowed fund of nearly $29,000 to date. POW! is committed to granting up to half of the funds raised from membership into the community each year while setting aside remaining member funds for growth and future giving in a Community Foundation of Henderson endowment.

Sponsors for 2014 were Chase Fulcher and Farm Bureau Insurance, Dick & Sheila Beaven, Air Hydro Power, Inc. and Marsha Clary Royster.
